2025 Ford Escape vs. Nissan Rogue Engines & Performance

One of the key differences between the 2025 Ford Escape and the 2025 Nissan Rogue is their engines. The Rogue is powered by a single engine option — the 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo®) three-cylinder engine — that makes 201 horsepower and can tow up to 1,500 pounds.

By comparison, the Escape offers four different engine choices. The standard Escape engine is also a 1.5L EcoBoost® engine, which makes 180 horsepower but can tow up to 2,000 pounds. The Escape also offers a 250-horsepower inline four-cylinder (I4) engine that can tow 3,500 pounds. If fuel efficiency is more appealing to you, the Escape also stands out. Upgrade to the available hybrid powertrain that gets up to 42 MPG in town. Or, choose the plug-in hybrid that gets up to 101 MPGe. The Rogue achieves up to 30 MPG in town.

While both models offer either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), depending on your preference, their transmissions are notably different. The Nissan Rogue is only offered with an Xtronic CVT® (continuously variable transmission), while the EcoBoost engines for the Escape get an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the hybrid and plug-in hybrid get an electronic CVT.
